The nave and the baptistery date from the first half of the fourteenth century. This explains why the nave still has a wooden arch in the shape of a barrel and why the side aisles have barrel vaultings. The transept and the choir were added in the fifteenth century. The square tower on the crossing refers to the so-called Schelde Gothic. Even later the side chapels were built: the Saint Joseph Chapel with altar of black and white marble, fabricated by Lucas Fayd’herbe (mid seventeenth century) and the Saint-Anthony Chapel (nineteenth century). |
