Oude Stadsfeestzaal (Old Municipal Festive Hall) | |||||||||
The Oude Stadsfeestzaal
was orginally a secondary school for girls and was designed by architect
Victor Louckx, who left his mark on the image of Mechelen and the end of
the nineteenth century. He interpreted the historical style characteristics
on a free basis. Nevertheless, there is a distinct influence visible of
the Italian Renaissance. On the ground floor there are Doric columns, on
the gallery, Ionic ones. The wooden doors and the guillocheband , that runs
over both floors, in their turn, refer to Classicism, while the blueprint
reminds us of a classic basilica. The ceiling hides a wooden grid, originally
set with glass, and a magistral iron roof construction. |
