Worked as a notary assistant and an educator to young delinquents after leaving high school. Founded a film club with some friends in 1967 and was leading the youth club Selkit in his home town which organized rock concerts, exhibitions, theater- and film events. Co-founded the art center MAGMA in the small Flemish town Herentals by the end of the seventies. Gave residency space to Jan Fabre during that period to create his breakthrough theater performance “It is theater as foreseen and expected” and organized different exhibitions. Assisted on performance by Chris Dercon and collaborated on his ‘Theater Tape Festival’. Got hired in the early eighties as production manager to Guy Cassiers play “Deadalus”. Afterwards, got hired by Art Center deSingel in Antwerp as programmer theater and film.
Left for New York in 1986 and assisted on works by Meg Stuart, Randy Warshaw, Ann Papoulis, Dennis O’Connor, Joseph Lenon, Vera Mantero and Peter Halasz. Was until 1992 NY advisor for Time Festival Gent (B), Holland Festival (N), Springdance (N) and contributed to the magazines Notes, Dance International and Film&Televisie.
Moved mid-1992 to Ljubljana Slovenia, participated on the local cultural activities and worked closely together with Plesni Theater Ljubljana, Film Art Festival Ljubljana, Video/Film Dance Festival Ljubljana, Neue Slowenische Kunst and Iztok Kovac.
In 1993 got invited by the Arts Festival Belluard-Bollwerk International in Ghent and invited Handspring Puppet Company, Meg Stuart, Nea Skini, Victoria, filmmaker Johan Van der Keuken and visual artist David Hammons, Pedro Cabrita Reis and Jimmie Durham to it. Received a return engagement by this festival in 1996 and 1999.
In 1995, programmed and coordinated the TIME FESTIVAL in Ghent (B) where he invited the Austrian poet Ernst Jandl, Alain Platel, Arne Sierens, and introduced visual art work from Art Club 2000, Rineke Dijkstra and Johan Grimonprez.
Curated the SommerSzene Salzburg program from 1994-1997 and got hired as production manager by the Salzburger Festspiele.
In 2000, received an invitation by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis to join the staff as senior curator film/video and stayed in this function until 2003.
Curated different solo shows for the project space of friends of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Ghent including works by Victor Burgin, Fiona Tan, Rineke Dijkstra, Raymond Depardon, David Claerbout, Harmony Korine …
Curated “What? A tale in free images” the video art exhibition of Brugge 2002, Cultural Capital, including works by Yael Bartana, Coco Fusco, Song Dong, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Peter Friedl, Harun Farocki and others.
From 1994-2000, founded and programmed the documentary film festival VIEWPOINT and curates the section A LOOK APART for the Flanders International Film Festival-Ghent since 2002. Is the advisor to the International Rotterdam Film Festival since May 2003.
Curated the exhibition “Undercurrent” for the artspace PLATFORM in Istanbul with works by Tina Gillen, Anouk Declercq, Geert Goiris, Koen De Decker en Mekhitar Garabedian.
Got appointed as curator for CONTOUR 2nd Biennial for Video Art which will take place from September 2005. Received an invitation by the Kunstverein Köln to collaborate on their “Imigration” project next year. Will be responsible for the artistic content to the Theaterfestival 2005 in Brussels. Founder of the Documentary FilmPlatform ZONE which will be launched in March 2005 and the video section of the summer exhibition Watou Poëziezomer in Belgium. Accepted to be the new board director of Meg Stuart’s Damaged Goods.
Co-produced the Argentinian film PARAPALOS by Ana Poliak. Works with the Flemish documentary filmmaker Gerrit Messiaen on a documentary project focusing on the American composer/musician Frederik Rzewski and prepares the new Ana Poliak film project “Blush”.
